Shannon began working as an independent costume contractor for Royal Caribbean in August 2007 and quickly advanced to Head Costumer, overseeing theatre cast replacement installs. In this role, he traveled to ships to supervise costume teams responsible for cleaning, repairing, and altering all pieces.
A typical install included scheduling, cleaning, fittings, repairs/alterations, dress rehearsals, and show opening. Each Royal Caribbean ship features at least two shows, with some hosting as many as 8–10 productions. These range from Vegas-style showgirl revues and jukebox-themed variety shows to ice skating productions, aqua theatre performances, and full Broadway/West End productions.
Shannon also had the distinct honor of assisting the Miami costume shop with builds, then leading installation teams for new productions on newly launched ships. His work included several co-produced Broadway/West End shows such as CATS, Chicago, Mamma Mia!, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Hairspray. Between union projects, he continues to return to ships for full show repair visits and cast replacements.
